Leeds star Kalvin Phillips rejects Manchester United in favour of Liverpool
According to The Sun, Leeds United superstar, Kalvin Phillips has rejected a transfer to Manchester United for Liverpool due to his loyalty to the current club. Losing a man of his quality to the bitter rivals would be a tough pill to swallow for the Red Devils.
Phillips has quickly emerged to become one of the highly-rated midfielders in England over the past year. He made his breakthrough in the top flight with Leeds before going on impress for England at Euro 2020. Questions were raised over his selection for the Euros, but he proved his doubters wrong by performing on the pitch.
Naturally, after a splendid international tournament, the midfielder’s value rose significantly, which has prompted top clubs like Man United and the Reds to pursue his signature. However, he has a preference among the two due to his affiliation with Leeds.
The Englishman has been at Elland Road since his childhood and has become a fan-favourite in that time. He has formed a deep connection with them and knows a move to Old Trafford could burn bridges beyond repair.
However, a move to Anfield could be comparatively more acceptable to fans. Marcelo Bielsa’s side does not have much chance of winning titles compared to the top teams and a move could prove to be the way forward for the player. The Red Devils would be dealt a damning blow as a result of this development and, they may not have much leverage when compared to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Rotten luck
We cannot hold it against the Whites ace if he decides to snub us since the circumstances do not favour us at all. Our luck could not get much worse as he could have seamlessly slotted into the 4-2-2-2 system used by Ralf Rangnick. He already showed his versatility when he played as a pivot for Bielsa and as a box-to-box midfielder for Gareth Southgate.

If the England midfielder signed for us, he could have slotted alongside one of Fred or Scott McTominay in the double pivot. His technical qualities would have complemented the latter duo who lack in that department. At the same time, playing under the Argentine manager would have made him tactically adept, which again helps our midfield duo.
Stranger things have happened in football before, and we should still try to convince him to join us, but the Merseyside club have considerably more advantages than us.
