Transfer News: Kalvin Phillips prefers Manchester City over Manchester United
According to Football Insider (h/t The Sun), Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips prefers to move to Manchester City this summer and will not consider a move to Manchester United.
Phillips joined the Whites in 2014 and after just one season with the reserve team, he made the breakthrough into the first team. Since then, his stocks have only kept rising with the talented Englishman proving himself at every stage.
A midfielder like no other, Phillips is relentless and keeps giving his all on the field somewhat similar to N’Golo Kante. The 26-year-old has had an injury-riddled campaign this time around playing just 23 games scoring one goal and one assist.
Man United have been said to be interested in the player for quite some time now but it looks like the player is set on making the switch to Man City and playing under Pep Guardiola.
Club rivalry?
As good as Kalvin Phillips is and as much as it makes sense from a footballing perspective, the United faithful will not be excited about signing a player from Leeds United and neither will the player who has been a Yorkshirian throughout.
The 26-year-old is at the stage of his career where his next move could be the biggest one of his career and he will be entering the prime years of his footballing career. Playing these years under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage must sound enticing to Phillips.
Manchester United need midfield reinforcements this season, it’s a necessity. Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard have all left the club. This will leave us with just Fred, Scott Mctominay and Donny van de Beek as our midfield options.
A player with a profile of Kalvin Phillips is just what the Red Devils need to lead their midfield but the Englishman is not an option. We must look at other opportunities in the transfer market that are similar to the Leeds midfielder and make a move for them.

Kalvin Phillips to Manchester United is extremely complicated for many reasons. We must not waste our time on the Englishman and move forward and look for other options.
