Transfer News: Manchester United star Edinson Cavani seeking South America return
According to ESPN Brasil (h/t Sportwitness), Veteran Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani is looking to taste the South American action as he is focusing on a move to the big Brazilian and Argentine clubs.
The Uruguayan is one of the greatest strikers of this generation. He has represented some of the biggest clubs in the world. He has played in three different leagues in Europe, scoring an incredible 359 club goals combined.
The 34-year-old striker joined Man United in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer. Since then, he has defied his age, scoring several key goals and showing incredible athleticism. His work rate is excellent and Cavani continues to inspire his teammates around him.
He played an important role in Man United’s success last season, finishing 2nd in the Premier League and also making it to the Europa League final. It is the final season of his contract and he is yet to consider any new contract agreement with the Red Devils. It seems his time in Europe is coming to an end.
The player for his part appears keen to return to his home continent. He has a desire of returning to South America and play close to his home country.
South America is famous for its passionate and raw football. A player like Cavani, who has years of experience playing at the highest level and is often referred to as a warrior, wouldn’t need much effort to blend in the South American football environment.
It seems Cavani’s agents are targeting the big boys in Brazil, and Brazilian bigwigs Corinthians and Flamengo are on their list.
It is believed that his brother, Walter Guiglielmo, approached Flamengo, Palmeiras, Internacional, São Paulo, Atlético-MG and Grêmio in 2020. But they couldn’t afford his wage bill, and thus the transfer failed.
