Roy Keane shares his brutal opinions after Manchester United suffer a stinging defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford
In conversation with Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Former Irish Professional footballer Roy Keane slammed his former club, Manchester United for their poor display against arch-rivals Manchester City.
The Old Trafford outfit have endured a torrid time in recent weeks. There have been glaring issues at the back and a lack of cohesion in the squad. The top teams have come and scored at will with very little being done to stop them. Humiliating defeats to Leicester City and Liverpool are testimony to this statement.
The Citizens came to ‘The Threatre of Dreams’ and dominated from the first whistle. They had the lion’s share of possession and it wasn’t long before the visitors opened the scoring. It was courtesy of an Eric Bailly own goal which gave David De Gea no chance at all.
Manchester United were constantly being pinned to the ropes by Man City. The blue side of Manchester managed to double the lead just before the end of the first half as Bernado Silva poked the ball in the net from a ridiculous angle. Luke Shaw and the De Gea were left totally bemused as the visitors were clearly running riot on their turf.
Roy Keane has slammed the squad as well as De Gea and Shaw for their lack of intent that led to the second goal:
“this defending from Shaw and De Gea, not enough pressure. You have to show intensity and put pressure. You’re on the ropes stay in the game. You’re like a boxer- stay in the game! I’ve been cursing these fellas for years – I give up. I give up on these players”
The performance may have left many supporters disappointed. This would only add the already mounting pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Despite boasting of some of the biggest talents in the world like Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, the Red Devils have struggled against the top clubs this season.

The Norwegian manager has tweaked his formation to accommodate three at the back but it isn’t doing him any favours at the moment. The Manchester United faithful will be hoping that the players can pull up their socks and start getting the desired results sooner rather than later.
