David de Gea praises Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw after Manchester United beat Leeds United

Speaking to the media after the game (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea praises fellow teammates Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw following the win over Leeds United.

Late goals from Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho secured another win for the Red Devils, who are now only five points behind the league leaders Arsenal, though having played two games more than them.

Shaw and Rashford combined for the first goal in the 80th minute after struggling to have full control of the game at Elland Road. Garnacho finished the game off five minutes later after being found by Wout Weghorst.

Here’s what de Gea said after the match, praising the two Englishmen (h/t Manchester Evening News):

“We knew the first 10 minutes of both halves were massive, so keep a clean sheet, big for us, and then we score two goals. It’s a special game and a special win. We knew the first goal was important and it was a perfect cross from Luke Shaw.

“He is playing very well and then Rashy, who is on fire, is scoring lots of goals, helping the team, running, pressing and I think he’s playing at the top level, so a massive goal for us and then we controlled the game.”

Rashford is in the form of his life that is for sure. The 25-year-old now has 21 goals in all competitions with a good chunk of the season still to go. Before the game, United boss Erik ten Hag did talk about the player’s form and demanded that he touches the 30-35 goal mark by the end of this campaign.

With what we are seeing of him so far, it would not be a surprise if he surpasses the 30-goal mark. In fact, we are kind of dependent on him scoring goals and being a threat in the final third to beat teams.

On the other hand, Shaw is delivering top performances at the back too. Since Ten Hag has started using him either as a centre-back or as a left-back depending on the opposition, the former Southampton man has added more layers to his game.

Our form is great at the moment. But, as we know in football, things change very quickly. With a cup final and a crucial tie against Barcelona in the Europa League to come, there cannot be any let-up in the levels and concentration of performances.
