Bruno Fernandes sends a message to Manchester United fans after penalty miss vs Aston Villa

Bruno Fernandes posted a heartfelt message to Manchester United fans on his social media account after his costly penalty miss vs Aston Villa in a 1-0 Premier League loss on Saturday.

The Red Devils went into the game unbeaten in the league but were on the back of damaging losses against Young Boys and West Ham United. Fernandes expectedly started in the number 10 role while Cristiano Ronaldo led the line for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The game kicked into action in the last 10 minutes, starting with a Kortney Hause header in the 88th minute to give Dean Smith’s side the lead. United had a chance to save the game in added time when Hause handled the ball inside his box.

With both Fernandes and Ronaldo on the pitch, it was anybody’s guess who was going to step up to the late. Donning the captain’s armband after Harry Maguire was forced off with an injury, Fernandes stepped up for the decisive kick.

What followed was perhaps one of Bruno’s worst kicks of the football from 12 yards out in a United shirt. The game ended 1-0 and Ole’s lacklustre side had to walk away with nothing.

The Man United faithful showed class after the full-time whistle when they sang their number 18’s name as he approached the tunnel. And Bruno was clearly moved by it, as he posted a heartfelt message for them on his Instagram account.

It was perhaps the last paragraph that would have stuck with the fans. They know that one kick doesn’t define their brilliant Portuguese maestro and it’s only a matter of time before he’s back amongst the goals.

“Thank you for all your support after the final whistle! Hearing you chanting my name in the stadium was very emotional… I will come back stronger for me, because these are the standards I hold myself to, but most of all for my teammates and our fans who have always supported us.”

United’s next task is a UEFA Champions League group tie against Villarreal before an important league game at home against Everton. Given the significance of the ties, one can expect Bruno to start on both occasions.
