Barcelona deny offering Manchester United the opportunity to sign Ansu Fati
According to Manchester Evening News, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has denied that young wonderkid Ansu Fati was offered to Manchester United earlier in the summer.
The 18-year-old is one of the best young players to come through La Masia in recent years. He has already made 43 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and five assists.
With Lionel Messi no more at the club and the likes of Antoine Griezmann being allowed to move on, the Catalans are currently in a state of rebuild. Having already lost Iliax Moriba it is fair to say that they are far from guaranteed from keeping their youngest talents.
The La Liga giants are under incredible financial pressure and have been forced to sell to shore up their accounts. The Catalans were said to have offered even Fati to both Manchester United and Manchester City. Club president Joan Laporta has however rubbished the news.
“We never put him up for sale.”
Laporta went on to add that no team had made an offer for the teenage sensation. Instead, he has since been entrusted with Messi’s number 10 jersey. It could be an indication of the faith Barcelona have in Fati’s abilities.
“This offer never came. Ansu was brave because he accepted the ’10’, but he only accepted it if the captains gave him the green light.”
Fati became the youngest ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League at 17 years and 40 days. He achieved the distinction in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Inter Milan in the group stages in 2019.
Fati missed most of last season thanks to a knee injury and is yet to feature in this campaign. He is held in high regard at the Nou Camp and is largely seen as the heir to Lionel Messi, as indicated by him being given the No. 10 jersey.
