As confirmed by the club’s official site, English wonderkid Mason Greenwood is the Manchester United player of the month for August.

The youngster has led the United frontline with aplomb this season and has scored three goals in three games so far. He has been a standout performer for United this season, alongside Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

Greenwood received 66 per cent of the total votes, an overwhelming majority and a clear indication of the popularity he possesses. Having gotten off to an excellent start, he is now keen to push on.

Speaking after winning the award, Greenwood expressed his happiness at his good start. His performances this time around have been in stark contrast to his early-season struggles from last season.

“Three games and three goals, it’s something I’ve been wanting to do. I’ve been wanting to score goals from the start.”

Greenwood found the back of the net against Leeds United, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers so far. Of the three, he admits that his opening day strike against Leeds has a special place in his heart.

“Probably the Leeds one [stands out most], to be fair, back at Old Trafford. It was amazing. The fans were going crazy, so that one is special to me.”

Whether the 19-year-old will start the game this weekend against Newcastle United remains to be seen. If anything, he has not given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer any reason to drop him to the bench.
