Manchester United star Donny van de Beek has talked about his desire to play for the club despite lack of playing time
According to a tweet put out by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano via an interview with FiveUK (h/t CaughtOffside), Donny van de Beek has talked about his lack of playing time at Manchester United and his hopes of playing more consistently this year.
The 24-year-old signed for the Old Trafford outfit from AFC Ajax last year but has failed to feature consistently for the Red Devils. Although the Dutchman played over 30 games for the club last year, he managed less than 1500 minutes across all competitions.
Additionally, given that United already have the likes of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred, Bruno Fernandes, and Nemanja Matic in the midfield line, the ex-Ajax ace has fallen down the pecking order at the Manchester-based club.
Moreover, the Red Devils were also linked with several midfielders over the course of this summer, which led to the 24-year-old was trying to orchestrate a move away from the club as Everton were interested in signing the player on a loan deal. However, United blocked the move as Solskjaer has kept the Dutchman in his plans.
Van de Beek recently talked about his conversation with the Norwegian boss and his personal ambitions to play for United. According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Caught Offside), he told FiveUK:
“Solskjaer told me: ‘I want you to stay here’. I need to trust him. If he doesn’t need me, I think he will let me go. I think he has plans with me, I just need to work hard, and I hope I can show the people, one day, what I can do”.
