Manchester United star Donny van de Beek was set to leave the club towards the end of the window
According to an interview done with Ziggo Sport (h/t Mirror), the agent of Donny van de Beek has revealed how he got close to orchestrating a move for the 24-year-old after Manchester United signed Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Red Devils, who added to their squads with Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho before the start of the season, also completed a sensational deal for Cristiano Ronaldo towards the end of the transfer window.
This was apparently ‘bad news’ for Donny van de Beek, as revealed by his agent, Guido Albers. The 24-year-old has suffered for game-time since his move from AFC Ajax last year.
Although the Dutchman managed 36 appearances in all competitions last season, most of them were off the bench as he had lesser than 1500 minutes under his belt. Albers talked about how he tried to orchestrate a move for the player after Ronaldo’s signing. He told Ziggo Sport (h/t Mirror):
“Cristiano arrived on Friday, which we knew was bad news for us. Pogba plays on the left, and with Cristiano’s arrival, it means another extra player in midfield, with Pogba moving away from the left. We had conversations with Solskjaer and the board. We took the initiative to find a club, and our search ended up at Everton. We opened talks with Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri”.

Albers also went on to mention that the deal fell through eventually after manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer informed them that a transfer is ‘out of the question’.
So far this season, Van de Beek has remained an unused substitute for all three Premier League games. Thus, only time will tell whether the 24-year-old gets increased game-time this year despite the deep squad the Old Trafford outfit boasts.
