Cristiano Ronaldo aiming for Premier League glory with Manchester United this season
According to The Sun, Manchester United returnee, Cristiano Ronaldo has already sent out an ambitious message to his new teammates following his sensational transfer from Juventus.
The 36-year-old is one of the finest players in the history of the game and enjoyed much success during his first spell at Old Trafford. Age has done little to temper his ambition to win and this has been illustrated clearly to those who will now share the dressing room with him at United.
He has already spoken to his new teammates following the confirmation of the move. The message is very simple but hard-hitting.
“We need to win the league.”
Ronaldo’s return adds much firepower to a Red Devils outfit that finished second in the Premier League last season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished 12 points behind champions Manchester City who won the league at a canter.
Now reinforced with not just Ronaldo but also Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, Solskjaer has the tools at his disposal to challenge Pep Guardiola’s side. With Chelsea and Liverpool in the mix, the task won’t be easy. However, if Ronaldo’s mentality seeps through to the others, an impossibility becomes a probability.
United have failed to win the league since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. Another season sans the title will make it nine years since we last won the biggest trophy in English football.
With Liverpool breathing down our necks in the all-time list and Manchester City winning the title last season, Ronaldo’s return could have been timed better. Whether he can inspire a turnaround in Untied’s fortunes remains to be seen.
