Mason Greenwood has enjoyed a tumultuous two years since making his debut against Arsenal. Moreover, he has grown to become an essential player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s project. The youngster has begun the 2021/22 season on a high-scoring three goals in the first three matches. He has now established himself that no one can ignore, including soccer betting fans on top betting platforms like the prominent Betway

Recently, the CIES Football Observatory Week Post released their top 100 players globally. In their ranking, Greenwood came in second behind Spanish midfielder Pedri, who plays for Barcelona. Many soccer fans will remember Pedri as the remarkable breakout star of the Euro 2020

Pedri is a year younger than Greenwood, but he topped the rankings because of the number of appearances for club and country. The Spanish youngster has played 78 matches in the past 12 months. This includes appearances for Spain teams in the Euros and Tokyo Olympics. He also played regularly for Barcelona as they reached the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League before being knocked out by Lionel Messi’s new club PSG.

Cies Criteria

CIES uses several parameters to find 100 footballers globally that have not reached 20 years. They also consider players that have amassed the most experience in senior official matches in the past 12 months. The minutes are gauged by the sporting strength of employer clubs and the competitions in which they play.

Pedri’s credentials include an experience rating of 100 after playing 3827 minutes in 49 matches for his club and country. In all these appearances, he has scored two goals. Greenwood comes a distant second with an experience rating of 75.

The young English player has played 2327 minutes in 36 games and scored 10 goals. Furthermore, based on how he has begun this season, he doesn’t seem like he is going to slow down soon.

In the absence of Edinson Cavani, commentators have backed the outstanding finisher to be the main striker for The Red Devils. In fact, Alan Shearer, a former English international, could not understand why Ole pushed him out wide and instead used Anthony Martial as the center forward. Shearer said he had watched Greenwood playing as the striker in the Leeds game, and he believes that is where he should play.

This should come as a great boost for the youngster coming from one of the most lethal strikers to have played in the EPL. Fortunately, Greenwood has two of the greatest finishers to learn from. So far, he has had a year to learn from Edinson Cavani. He seems to have picked several lessons, especially movements in and around the 18-yard box.

Moreover, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford offers him one more talented footballer for Greenwood to learn from. CR7 will inspire the youngster to keep working hard, improve his physicality, and finishing.

The bottom line is, Greenwood is in the right place to continue growing to fulfill his potential. It is upon him to continue his development and become a great footballer and an Old Trafford great.
