Transfer News: Manchester United in pole position to sign Erling Haaland next year
According to transfer news from German publication BILD (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are ahead in the race to sign Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland in the summer of 2022.
The 21-year-old has been incredible for Borussia Dortmund since his arrival from RB Salzburg in January 2020. The youngster has scored 62 goals in 63 games for the German outfit and does not look like he is going to stop there.
Haaland was instrumental in Dortmund finishing 3rd in the Bundesliga last season while he also fired the club to the Champions League quarter-final, where they lost to eventual finalists in Manchester City.
Due to the player’s incredible form, several clubs have been interested in signing Haaland this summer, however, the German club’s £150million valuation of the player has warded off most suitors.
Thus, while a move looks unlikely this summer, the Norwegian will be available for nearly £64million in January itself, a price much more reasonable to several suitors of the player, including Manchester United. The Red Devils would be keen on adding some firepower to their frontline soon.
With Edinson Cavani’s contract set to expire next summer, it would bode well to bring in a younger replacement for the Uruguayan. While United have been interested in signing the 21-year-old, they have now received a huge boost as German publication BILD (h/t Sport Witness) deem United to be in ‘pole position’ to sign the forward for next year.

Moreover, Haaland is said to be set to ‘part ways’ with Dortmund next summer as the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, will pull ‘the exit clause’, which will allow the player to become available to clubs for a potential move. This is a huge boost for the Red Devils, who will be keen on reuniting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his former Molde pupil.
