Dean Henderson tipped to leave Manchester United in January
According to Caught Offside, Luke Chadwick was of the opinion that Dean Henderson will leave Manchester United in January. The former midfielder expected one of David de Gea or Henderson to leave over the summer. However, he believes that Henderson’s illness has likely pushed the exit back till January next year.
It was rather a huge moment last season when an unofficial change of guard took place in goal for United. While it was necessary at first with De Gea going away on paternity leave, his return did not see him straightaway back to his position between the sticks.
Dean Henderson was allowed to show his abilities with the glove on a regular basis. Barring a few errors here and there, Henderson was a largely positive influence on the side with his vocal nature and command of the box. However, he did no get the nod for the all-important Europa League final raising questions about the futures of both keepers.
Chadwick has tipped Henderson to leave the club
Currently, Dean Henderson is recovering from COVID and it hands a chance to De Gea to stake his claim as the first choice. Luke Chadwick feels that Henderson might be let go in January as the Spaniard will likely start the season as the number one.
“I think by default it looks like David de Gea will start the season as number one. Dean Henderson’s had an injury and is now suffering with Covid, so I think he’ll end up slotting into the number two position and that will roll on until January when the speculation starts again.
“It’s his place to lose really, if he can put in the kind of fantastic performances that he has in the past, then I think it might be Henderson who moves on in January. I think people, myself included, have swayed between one and the other over the last 6-12 months.”

Despite the season set to start soon, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given no hint whatsoever regarding the situation over his keepers. For now, the automatic choice is De Gea. However, questions will again be asked when Henderson returns from illness. After all, he did impress in the handful of games he was afforded last time around.
