Transfer News: Manchester United starlet Ethan Laird wanted by Swansea City

According to transfer news from TeamTalk, Manchester United are ready to sanction a loan move for 19-year-old defender Ethan Laird to Swansea City this season.

The defender spent the last season on loan at League 1 club MK Dons and impressed as he made 25 appearances for the Buckinghamshire outfit. Laird returned to Manchester United at the end of his loan to train at Manchester United’s AON complex.

Given that Laird was injured on the last day of the season against Rochdale, he is yet to be involved in the first-team training under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he recovers from his injury.

However, Swansea City have set their eyes on the defender this season with Manchester United ready to let go of the player on a loan move this season, especially to a club with a manager they know well. Russel Martin, who is the new manager of Swansea, managed Laird last season at MK Dons and knows the potential of the player.

Laird, who is nearing full fitness, talked about his plans for the summer earlier this summer. He told Inside United (h/t ManUtd.com):

“Yeah, of course. I mean, that’s the club I’m at and that’s where I want to be. Who knows, I can’t really give you a set answer on my future just yet, but I know that my long-term aim is to establish myself with United. Let’s just see what happens in the summer.”

Laird has only made 2 senior appearances for Manchester United with both of them coming in the 2019/20 Europa League campaign. While the defender’s long-term goal is to represent the senior team on a consistent basis, a loan move to a Championship club could bode well for him now.
