Transfer News: Atletico Madrid stance on Kieran Trippier joining Manchester United revealed
As per a report by Spanish outlet AS (h/t Manchester Evening News), Atletico Madrid do not want to sell their English international defender Kieran Trippier to Manchester United in the summer.
They view the right-back as ‘untransferable’ and do not plan to accept any incoming bids. Los Colchoneros’ stance on Trippier’s transfer comes despite the player wanting a move to Old Trafford.
Trippier, who previously played for Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley, could have been the ideal defender to vie for starts with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.
The 30-year-old has shown his pedigree time and again in the Premier League as well as with the English national team. He was with the Three Lions squad in the recently concluded Euros and helped them reach the final, albeit in a losing effort.
United receive Trippier blow
Brandon Williams and Diogo Dalot are still young and lack any form of serious Premier League experience to warrant starts. Until either of them is ready for the step-up, United could do with an experienced full-back like Trippier.
Thankfully for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Wan-Bissaka has largely kept fit and is a regular in the starting XI. But that doesn’t mean the former Crystal Palace player should be overburdened.
While the club has received a blow in the race to land Trippier, their pursuit of Raphael Varane seems to be going well. The Real Madrid defender could leave the Spanish giants to join the Red Devils.
