Transfer News: Manchester United blow in chase for Giovanni Di Lorenzo

According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have suffered a blow in the pursuit of Giovanni Di Lorenzo. The Euro 2020 winner is expected to extend his current deal with Napoli until 2026. His agent confirmed that there is nothing going on with Manchester United.

Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph had a lot of heroes. Some heralded and some unheralded. Players like Jorginho, Federico Chiesa, and Leonardo Spinazzola shone the brightest. However, there were a few like Napoli’s Giovanni Di Lorenzo that went about their job without much fuss.

In a new-look Italian side, Di Lorenzo was one of those that symbolised the defensive prowess of the side. The Italian right-back did not venture forward, much like Spinazzola on the other flank, and kept to his own half, aiding the centre-backs.

It was because of that United had developed an interest in the full-back. However, it looks as if there is unlikely to be any move to United. The 27-year-old is close to signing a contract extension with Napoli that will keep him at the club for another five years. Romano cleared that there were no negotiations with United. Di Lorenzo’s agent also quashed that anything was going on with United.

Hard to say how much interest United showed in the Italian but it looks like they will not be getting the Euro 2020 winner. While he would have surely been a great option to have, United can now turn their attention to other targets.
