Transfer News: Manchester United close to agreeing personal terms with Raphael Varane
According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Manchester United are close to agreeing on personal terms with Raphael Varane. Negotiations with Real Madrid are said to be going at a rather slow pace but there is optimism that a deal can be struck over the next few weeks.
This is not really the first time Varane has been the subject of interest from United. It was there since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson before he ended up joining Real Madrid. He has now become a world-class star at Real Madrid. Arguably at his peak, Varane has won all there is with Real Madrid and also the World Cup with France.
The Red Devils are in need of a new defender to partner Maguire and have identified the French international for the same. With his contract set to expire next summer, United are closing in on his signing. Real Madrid are in a spot and they have conceded that he is likely to leave this season instead of leaving on a free transfer next summer.
A deal is still far from completion as negotiations are still going on and at a rather slow rate between both clubs (h/t Daily Mail). United are looking to offer a sum in the region of £50million but Real are said to be holding out for £80million.
However, there is the belief from United that they can get a deal over the line in the next few weeks and get Varane to agree on personal terms with them.
