Manchester United handed an advantage in Yves Bissouma pursuit
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have been handed an advantage in their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion star Yves Bissouma this summer.
The 24-year-old has been a key part of Graham Potter’s Seagulls side and has often acted as their lynchpin in midfield. An excellent ball carrier, he is a key player in their efforts to link the defence to attack.
This is admittedly a trait that both Fred and Scott McTominay lack. Both players, though spirited midfielders with an impressive engine, struggle when it comes to carrying the ball forward. Signing Bissouma would help plug a major hole in our midfield.
With Jadon Sancho’s arrival imminent, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shifted his focus on strengthening other areas of the squad. One of his priorities is to bring in a new defensive midfielder. While the likes of Declan Rice have been touted, the Englishman will cost a king’s ransom.
Bissouma is likely to cost lesser and represents a financially sound investment. While United’s links to the player have gone cold in recent weeks, there might have been given hope to being rekindled.
Brighton have not announced the transfer of Red Bull Salzburg’s Enock Mwepu. The 23-year-old Zambian is also a defensive midfielder and could potentially be a replacement for Bissouma. Whether this is the Seagulls preparing for the eventual departure of their star man remains to be seen.
Bissouma’s performances have not gone unnoticed. The likes of United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all keeping tabs on him. A proven Premier League talent, his capture could be an astute piece of business by United.
