Transfer News: Manchester United face intense battle from Tottenham Hotspur for Yves Bissouma
According to Fabrice Hawkins of RTL France (h/t The Express), Manchester United are engaged in an intense battle with Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma. He was recently out on international duty playing in the African Cup of Nations, but his side was unfortunately knocked out of the competition.
Bissouma could leave Brighton and Hove Albion this January transfer window despite being a crucial component for them. Tottenham and Man United are heavily interested in signing him as they gear up to face the top four battle for the rest of the season.
Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the situation, but all three clubs are intensely in discussions to prise away the Malian. However, Graham Potter’s side has slapped an asking price of at least €45million as the winter transfer window is set to close down soon.
Late move from Man Utd?
If we can pull this off when the market is set to close down following tomorrow’s deadline day, it would be an ecstatic swoop on the board’s part. After all, we have not made any midfield signings this month, even if our need has been well documented for quite a while.
The 25-year-old is an excellent choice since he has experience playing in the Premier League while also performing well for a long time. Our opponents have had an easy time cutting through our midfield, even if it has been fixed to an extent under Ralf Rangnick.
Even then, we could use someone like him who could just break down attacks through his excellent game reading ability. Not to mention, his dribbling prowess helps him escape from high-pressure moments with ease leading to counterattacks. Pairing the African alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes would create a perfect blend in a three-man midfield utilised by Rangnick at this point.

We would not have it easy since the competition from Tottenham would be tough, especially after their recent disappointments in the market. Villa cannot be overlooked as they are plotting to raise their level under Steven Gerrard. We have to be quick in our attempt so that they don’t have enough time to make their case.
The Mali international’s valuation is relatively feasible, looking at how he has many years left in his playing career. Winter dealings are usually pricey compared to summer ones but, even with that factor, the price tag is something that can be met. It remains to be seen what the outcome of this “intense” transfer race would be in the coming hours.
