Jadon Sancho pushed Marcus Rashford to help complete Manchester United switch
According to The Athletic (h/t The Daily Mail), Manchester United new boy Jadon Sancho urged Marcus Rashford to help him push through a move to the club.
The 21-year-old was United’s top transfer target last summer. However, an agreement could not be agreed upon and he ended up staying at Borussia Dortmund for another season. He led the Germans to a top-four finish and the DFB Pokal trophy, ending the season in top form.
He will now bring that talent to the adoring Old Trafford crowd as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims to take the club back to the pinnacle of English football. If all goes to plan, United have in their midst a genuine world-beater for the future.
Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was reluctant to meet Dortmund’s asking price for Sancho. According to the report, the player then reached out to Rashford, urging him to tell Woodward to fork out the money needed to land him.
Rather than an ultimatum, it was in fact a message between two close friends joking about the matter. That request did come true but a year later and for a much-reduced price than originally thought.
“Can you ask Ed to pay the money please?”
A decisive summer
The £73m deal is one of United’s costliest ever transfers and will be paid to Borussia Dortmund in instalments over the next five years. This leaves more room in the FFP budget should United want to make more moves in the window (h/t The Daily Star)
Curiously, days before the Sancho news was made official, Rashford confirmed to supporters that Sancho would be signing with the club. While he later claimed that his Twitter account was hacked, it seems a convenient excuse.
Sancho is set to complete his move to Old Trafford after this summer’s Euros. He will sign a five-year deal that runs until 2026 and undergo a medical once he returns from the tournament.

It would appear that Sancho had his heart set on a move to United. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that the deal was moving ahead due to the player’s initiative. The Germans remain unhappy about the transfer fee they are receiving.
