Arsenal could aid Manchester United in their pursuit of Kieran Trippier
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United may have an unlikely ally in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier.
The 30-year-old is being seen as a key capture as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks to reinforce his squad ahead of the new season. The Norwegian is keen to bring in competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and appears to have earmarked Trippier to be his man.
A move for the Englishman has been complicated thanks to Atletico’s demand that the player’s €40million release clause be met. It is a rather huge price for a player with little to no sell-on value.
However, according to the report, there may be a ray of hope for United as Atletico are looking at right-backs. This is where Arsenal and Hector Bellerin enter the conversation.
The Spaniard looks set to leave the Emirates this summer and could join Diego Simeone’s side. This could pave the way for Trippier to make his move to Old Trafford. Whether this will come to pass remains to be seen.
Having played for both Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, Trippier is no stranger to the English game. This should hold him in good stead once he completes his switch to Old Trafford. The chances of that happening, however, look unclear.
Trippier for his part is keen to return to Manchester. The full-back is worried that he could be priced out of a move and that remains a possibility. The 30-year-old played a key role for Atletico last season as they won the La Liga title. He was eventually named in the La Liga team of the year. Trippier was subsequently selected for the England squad for the Euros.
