Is Kieran Trippier using Manchester United interest to secure a lucrative new deal at Atletico Madrid?

Manchester United believe they can land Kieran Trippier for £12million

According to The Athletic (h/t The Metro), Manchester United are confident that they can land Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier for a knockdown price this summer.

The Red Devils are keen on bringing in the 30-year-old to compete alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka. An experienced hand who also offers much in attack, securing Trippier will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer an extra option to play with.

Trippier was a key part of Diego Simeone’s La Liga winning side last season. He has had an excellent two years in Spain since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.

The Spanish champions are not in the best financial health and are open to selling their star man. However, United do not appear to be willing to meet their £20m asking price. United are aware that the player is keen to return to England and plan to use it to their advantage.

Pulling off a £12m deal for Trippier would be an astute piece of business from United. We would be landing ourselves a top player with vast experience. Doing so for such a cheap price would also free up funds for us to use elsewhere.

The Red Devils are relaxed over a move for Trippier. The club plan to use Diogo Dalot to compete with Wan-Bissaka if Trippier doesn’t arrive. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen to sign a centre-back, while a central midfielder could arrive if Paul Pogba leaves.
