Rio Ferdinand expects Manchester United players to talk Harry Kane into making Old Trafford switch
According to The Mirror, Rio Ferdinand believes that the Manchester United players in the England squad will talk to Harry Kane regarding a move to Old Trafford.
The English skipper is among the best strikers in world football. Despite his prolific numbers, Kane is yet to win a single major honour with Tottenham Hotspur.
With his future in North London called into question, a number of clubs including United are keen on securing his services. A prolific scorer, Kane walks into most teams across the world.
Currently with the England squad for the Euros, Kane will be sharing the dressing room with a number of United stars. This includes the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Dean Henderson.
Ferdinand fully expects the quartet to tap up the player into making a move to Old Trafford. However, that is easier said than done. The likes of Manchester City also have players in the England squad and will have their own plans for Kane.
An informal scouting trip?
Ferdinand also admits that he was on the receiving end of such enquiries during his time with England at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Then at Leeds United, he was talked to by Nicky Butt, who gauged if he is keen to move to Old Trafford.
“That happened when I went to the World Cup with Nicky Butt, Becks in the United team. Talked about me coming to United.”
International tournaments can often become hubs for informal scouting where players from interested teams can try to assess opportunities. United clearly were able to turn Ferdinand’s head in 2002, and hopefully can repeat the trick again this time.
