Georgina Rodriguez reveals that Manchester United target Cristiano Ronaldo will stay put at Juventus

According to a post made on Instagram (h/t Juve FC), Georgina Rodriguez, the partner of Cristiano Ronaldo, has thrown a spanner into hopes of him moving to Manchester United.

The 36-year-old is coming off a frustrating season that saw Juventus miss out on both the Serie A and Champions League crowns. Having achieved what he wanted in Turin, he was linked with a move away to either United or Paris Saint-Germain.

According to the report, Georginia was filming a docuseries when a fan asked her if Ronaldo would leave or stay at Juventus. She responded in the affirmative that he would be staying put.

Ageing like fine wine

This comes as a blow to United who have been increasingly keen on bringing the Portuguese legend back to Old Trafford. The Red Devils had initially claimed that they were not keen on the 36-year-old.

The tone had softened of late with them willing to make a move for the attacker. Ole Gunnar Solskajer continues to be in touch with Ronaldo and is keen to bring him to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are, however, keen to see him take a pay cut in order to make the switch to the Theatre of Dreams. Ronaldo currently earns £350,000-a-week at Juventus.

Friend or foe?

Rodriguez’s comment is surprising given the managerial merry-go-round at the Allianz Stadium. Andrea Pirlo was replaced by Massimiliano Allegri who returns to the club where he enjoyed much success.

The Italian had back in 2018 advocated for Ronaldo to be sold and the current developments put him and the player in an awkward situation. However, Allegri is the best manager to handle Juventus during Ronaldo’s time there and gives him the best chance of securing another Champions League title.

As consummate professionals, one would expect them to get on with their job. But then, funnier things have happened in football.
