De Gea beats Henderson in the race for the Manchester United No.1 spot against Villarreal
In David de Gea and Dean Henderson, Manchester United have two good goalkeepers who are dominant in their own right. The duo has battled it out for the starting position all season, with each gaining the upper edge at different times.
According to The Mirror, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a decision to play De Gea over Henderson in the Europa League final.
The Spaniard started the season as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and looks set to end it the same way as well.
Henderson has started all of the games in the FA Cup, League Cup and was in goal for the first four Europa League ties. He has also been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League since the end of February.
The 24-year-old struggled to impress against Liverpool last weekend and should have done better for at least two of the Merseysider’s four goals.
De Gea returned to action in the subsequent match against Fulham. It was just his second start in the league since March. He also grabbed himself an assist for Edinson Cavani’s spectacular strike in the first half.
Starting De Gea against Villarreal is also just considering the role he played in the semifinal second leg against Roma.
The Italians dominated the game and won the game 3-2. It could have been much worse had it not been for De Gea in goal.

De Gea did not start for United in our 2016 final appearance in the same competition. Jose Mourinho chose to keep faith in Sergio Romero, who retained his spot over the Spaniard.
The 30-year-old’s future at the club is uncertain heading into the summer. Whether he will leave on a high remains to be seen.
