Solskjaer admits either Dean Henderson or David de Gea could push to leave Manchester United this summer

According to ESPN, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a huge decision to make ahead of the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils take on La Liga side Villarreal in the showpiece event at Gdansk. While there are a number of key decisions to be made, the goalkeeping conundrum is amongst those at the top of the pile.

Both David de Gea and Dean Henderson have started in goal at different times this season. While both have had their hits or misses, no standout contender has emerged from their competition.

Only one of them can start in the final against Villarreal and it is yet unsure who it will be. Solskjaer admits that whoever misses out could be on his way out of the club in the summer.

Henderson appeared to have the upper hand heading towards the end of the season. However, his performance in the 4-2 loss to Liverpool saw him get benched in favour of De Gea in the next game.

It was subsequently reported that Solskjaer will continue with De Gea in goal against Villarreal.

Pros and cons

De Gea is not just in his 30s but is also United’s highest earner at £375,000-a-week. While he is keen to stay at Old Trafford, Solskjaer has concerns over the Spaniard’s lack of motivation and his inability to command his box (h/t The Metro)

He is however technically superior to Henderson but lacks in his communication and organisation skills. Solskjaer is keen to address his goalkeeping conundrum this summer.
