Luke Shaw calls upon the Glazers to strengthen Manchester United this summer
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star Luke Shaw has urged the Glazers to invest in the Red Devils squad in order to make them title challengers next season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished second in the Premier League this season. Despite their progress, United are still some way off from toppling Manchester City, who finished 12 points ahead of us this season.
With Liverpool rediscovering their form and Chelsea having an excellent squad at their disposal, one can expect a tough fight next season. United meanwhile cannot afford to stand still.
“The manager was speaking the other day that he would like one or two more signings. I think that we would all welcome that with open arms. Anything that would make our squad better, increase our chances of getting to that next level, will always be good for the team.”
Shaw believes bringing in more players will increase the competition within the United squad. The English international delved into his own experience, where the signing of Alex Telles saw him take his game up several notches.
Benefits of competition
Having made the left-back position his own, Shaw heads into the Euros as a much-improved player. There is no reason why the same impact cannot be replicated in other positions within the team.
“You only have to look at how competition has pushed me, but if we can get that around the whole place in different positions, I think we can continue to keep pushing each other.”
United are still a work in progress and far from the finished article. There are still errors to be ironed out and improvements to be made. Shaw believes the club is headed in the right direction and will hopefully be proven right in the years to come.
