Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeking to address goalkeeping situation at Manchester United ahead of new season

According to the Mirror, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to find a permanent solution to his goalkeeping conundrum ahead of next season.

David de Gea started the season as the club’s first-choice custodian with Dean Henderson stepping in now and then. Solskjaer has given both men opportunities since the turn of the year and it is now unsure as to whether there is a clear first-choice.

With the Europa League final coming up, both goalkeepers have a claim at starting against Villarreal. One does not envy Solskajer his position going into the showpiece event.

“It’s been a strange season with regards to goalkeeping.”

David de Gea replaced Henderson against Fulham last weekend

While the competition for places is well and good, one could say that the goalkeeping position is one that demands stability and consistency. In De Gea and Henderson, we have two good options but only one can start every game.

Solskjaer is aware of the issue and is keen to have a settled choice going into next season. The onus is now on the Norwegian to come up with a solution that best aids the club.

“I’m really pleased with the two of them, it’s difficult to have that kind of rotation, you don’t rotate that much normally, I’ll have to find a solution for next year definitely.”

It is difficult to see either Henderson or De Gea agree to sit on the bench next season. United could very well have to move on one player in order to put faith in the other.

Henderson, for all his promise, still has a long way to go before he can be considered undroppable. His performance against Liverpool showcased him at his best and worst, prompting Solskjaer to replace him the next game against Fulham.
