Sir Alex Ferguson opens up on the stars he would have liked to coach at Manchester United

Speaking to Gary Neville on Sport Bible (h/t The Daily Star), Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the players from today’s generation who he would have liked to welcome at Old Trafford.

The Scot spent 27 years in the Old Trafford hot seat, a time during which he managed some of the biggest names in the world. Despite having retired from the game in 2013, Ferguson appears to have an idea of the players making waves today.

It will come as no surprise but Ferguson has named Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane as a player he would have liked to coach.

“I think (Harry) Kane.”

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the players from today's generation who he would have liked to welcome at Old Trafford.

Ferguson had a number of top strikers thrive under him. It is fair to assume that Kane would have taken his game up another notch had he played under the Scot.

He also went on to add the name of Son Heung-Min as a player who interests him. The South Korean has formed a deadly understanding with Kane and they are often at the heart of Spurs’ attacking moves.

“And the boy Son (Heung-min) at Tottenham, these are excellent players.”

Ferguson also named Dele Alli as another player on his radar. However, the English star’s fall from grace in recent seasons has mystified him.

A beaten path

Signing players from Tottenham is nothing new for Ferguson. The likes of Teddy Sheringham, Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov all arrived from White Hart Lane and thrived under the Scot.

Whether United could have landed Kane or Son had Ferguson still been at the club is debatable. The Red Devils are one of the sides keen on Kane and it would appear we have Ferguson’s blessings to go ahead.

It is fair to say that Ferguson has not lost his eye for talent despite being away from the sport. While he may not get to manage Kane, it remains to be seen if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be presented with the opportunity.

Perhaps to the irritation of United fans, Ferguson also picked Sergio Aguero as a player who he rates. Given the Argentine’s record and consistency, one can see why.
