Manchester United eyeing Southampton striker Danny Ings ahead of the summer transfer window
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Manchester United are eyeing a move for Southampton striker Danny Ings in the summer transfer window.
Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial are the club’s only two senior strikers. While the former has extended his contract with the club, it is unreasonable to expect him to start every week.
Bringing in another striker is essential going into next season. It is imperative that we have strength in depth and it would appear Ings is a player we are keeping tabs on.
Ings has just a year to go on his current deal at St Mary’s. Although negotiations regarding a new contract have taken place, there has been no progress in the matter.
United have already made an enquiry for the 28-year-old. With time running out on his contract, the Red Devils are hoping to pile pressure on Southampton this summer.
A former Liverpool striker, Ings’ time at Anfield was marred by injuries. Since moving to Southampton, he has scored an impressive 46 goals and 10 assists in 99 games. (h/t Transfermarkt)
United are also on the trail of Harry Kane, who is keen to call it quits at Tottenham Hotspur. It was reported earlier that Spurs would be keen on a player plus cash deal if Anthony Martial is allowed to go the other way.
Such a situation would land us Kane but would still leave us with two senior strikers to call upon.
