Boca Juniors admit they will return for Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani in 2022
According to TNT Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Boca Juniors have not given up in their pursuit of Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.
The South American giants were heavily linked with the player heading into the summer. However, he ended all speculations regarding his future by penning fresh terms with United.
While Cavani’s imemdiate future may lie at Old Trafford, Boca could still have the final laugh.
The Boca sporting director, Juan Roman Riquelme continues to be in touch with Cavani. He expects the striker to link up with him in Buenos Aires next season.
“I keep talking to him, I think he will be with us next year, god willing, I have been talking to him for more than a year.”
He went on to add that Cavani admitted last December that he was keen to return to South America. While his fortunes have changed since, Boca’s interest does not appear to have wavered.
“I was not sure that he was going to continue in England, in December he told me that he really wanted to come, it would be very nice to have him.”
With Anthony Martial out injured, Cavani has found himself playing more in the last few weeks. He has repaid that faith with a number of key goals, enhancing his reputation at the club.
Despite turning 34, he still has enough left in him to find the net on a regular basis for United. While he might still end up at Boca, United will have little to worry about for another season.

Two key factors helped swap Cavani’s decision in United’s favour. One was the club’s attitude towards him and the other, his teammates asking him to stay put.
The Uruguayan’s sojourn at Old Trafford is far from done. He could yet write his name into United folklore if he scores in the Europa League final against Riquelme’s former club, Villarreal.
