Solskjaer makes a decision on the future of this PL Player of the Month winner

Solskjaer ready to call curtains on Jesse Lingard at Manchester United

According to The Athletic (h/t The Express), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to have made a decision regarding the future of Jesse Lingard at Manchester United.

The 28-year-old has been in sensational form since joining West Ham United on loan in January. With nine goals and four assists in 14 appearances, he has led the Hammers frontline with panache. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Lingard’s performances have seen him win both the Premier League Player of the Month and the Goal of the Month awards for April.

Solskjaer recently admitted that the player may still have a future at the club. His stock however is at an all-time high and it would appear United are ready to cash in.

Moreover, Lingard’s contract at United runs out in 2022. His value has never been higher and the Red Devils could demand top dollar for him this summer.

A number of top teams such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Inter Milan are all keeping tabs on Lingard. While West Ham United may be keen to keep him, they might find it unfeasible to do so.

A new challenge

United appear to be willing to offer Lingard in part exchange to get their summer signings. The Red Devils have been reported to use him for deals for Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane.

The 28-year-old came through the ranks at United before going on to impress under both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. However, he has failed to repeat the trick under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was largely a peripheral player under the Norwegian.

It is debatable if a return to Old Trafford will see any improvement in his opportunities. A parting of the ways may be the best outcome for all parties involved.
