Transfer News: Manchester United to use Jesse Lingard as a makeweight for Jadon Sancho

According to The Sun, Manchester United will offer Jesse Lingard as a part of the bid for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the 21-year-old but have so far failed to land him. With Dortmund willing to accept the right offer, the time may be ripe for us to make another move.

Sancho may have failed to start the season well this time around. However, he appears to have found form at the right time.

Not only is the Bundesliga sensation pushing Dortmund for a top-four finish but also scored twice yesterday night as they won the DFB Pokal final against RB Leipzig.

It was the second time in a week that Sancho had put Leipzig to the sword. His performance on the night encapsulated his match-winning abilities and was a timely reminder of just what he can do.

Perhaps unexpectedly, Lingard is having a similar impact at West Ham United. Currently on loan, the 28-year-old has scored nine goals and made four assists in just 13 games. He has also picked up the Premier League player of the month award for April.

Dortmund too are interested in Lingard and United intend to take advantage of it. The Germans are keen to receive £100m but could settle for less if Lingard is thrown into the equation.

Dortmund’s stance is understandable, as they have to hand City 15% of the overall transfer fee. Selling him for a lower fee would now aid us on two fronts.

While West Ham would like to keep Lingard, the player’s £100,000-a-week wage demands are proving to be an issue.

United value Lingard at around £20m. They are keen to stick to the fee despite him having just a year to go on his current deal. Given his recent performances, one cannot undermine his worth. Whether Dortmund are willing to play ball remains to be seen.
