Man United set for £500k windfall if West Ham finish in the top four

Manchester United to gain financially if Jesse Lingard led West Ham finish in the top four

According to The Sun, Manchester United could be set to land a £500k windfall if Jesse Lingard leads West Ham United to a top-four finish.

The Hammers are among the teams still fighting it out for a spot in next season’s Champions League. Recent capitulations by both Leicester City and Chelsea have thrown open the race heading into the final few matches.

United must have foreseen just such an event as they inserted a clause in Jesse Lingard’s contract that would see West Ham reward us for their success.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on loan last January and has since emerged as a key player for them. With nine goals and four assists in 13 games, he has led their surge from the front. (h/t Transfermarkt)

His performances have not gone unnoticed. Apart from West Ham, the lieks of Arsenal and even Real Madrid are linked with a summer move for him. With just a year to go on his deal at Old Trafford, United are well placed to demand top dollar this summer.

The player for his part is happy in London. He is a fan favourite at the London Stadium and is open to staying put.

West Ham’s recent loss to Everton has been a dagger blow to their chances of finishing in top four. They currently trail Chelsea by six points, having played a game less.

While the Hammers do have a favourable run-in, their top-four fate does not lie in their own hands.

While it remains to be seen if United will get the money, it is a smart move by the club to add such a clause. At the very least, the loan spell will have boosted Lingard’s image.

It will not come as a surprise if he fetches an impressive transfer fee this summer.
