“We’ll learn from that” – Man United star vows to improve after Liverpool humbling

Bruno Fernandes vows to improve after losing to Liverpool in his first PL outing as Manchester United captain

Speaking to MUTV (h/t ManUtd.com), Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has given an honest assessment of our 2-4 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Standing in as skipper for the injured Harry Maguire, Fernandes got the Red Devils off to a great start. His goal-bound effort was deflected past Alisson Becker to give United an early lead.

The Red Devils were the better team in the opening exchanges but failed to make their dominance count.

Liverpool turned the game before the break and raced to a 3-1 lead, thanks to a Roberto Firmino double. Marcus Rashford restored hope with a nifty finish before Mohamed Salah killed the game in the dying minutes.

Fernandes, as expected, was dejected at the result and believes United contributed to their own downfall by making far too many mistakes.

“Everyone was disappointed in the dressing room because we made mistakes but we’ll learn from that and we have to keep improving. We are not at our best yet.”

While we may not have been able to turn it around yesterday night, he has declared that the team will learn from it and keep improving. United are yet to peak and hopefully, that day will come sooner than later.

Not good enough

“We are disappointed in the dressing room and we have to improve, we have to be better and we have to do it in the next game against Fulham to secure second place.”

United pushed hard for the equaliser yesterday but to no avail. In fact, it was on such a forward foray that we got picked off by Salah for the fourth goal.

While it may not have been enough, the players will hopefully take the lessons and go on to achieve better results in the future.

“It’s frustrating because we know, we’re trying to win the game but it was not enough.”

Fernandes not only wore the armband for his 50th league appearance for United but also made it a memorable one for personal reasons.

The 26-year-old’s opener was his 28th strike of the season. He has now beaten Frank Lampard’s record of being the highest-scoring midfielder in a Premier League season.
