Three Manchester United players named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad
According to the England National Football Team’s official Twitter account, three Manchester United players have been named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming internationals.
United skipper Harry Maguire misses out with an injury he picked up against Aston Villa last weekend. He is now expected to be ruled out for a few weeks.
There are, however, three Red Devils stars who made the cut. Jesse Lingard, Jadon Sancho and Luke Shaw all get picked in the squad after impressive showings in the last few months.
The inclusion of Shaw is good news given that he too missed out win over Villarreal with injury. Southgate including him could indicate at him being available soon.
Lingard’s inclusion is warranted given the good form he is in. The 28-year-old missed out on the Euros and will be hoping to make the most of his opportunities now. This will hold him in good stead ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup.
Surprisingly Sancho keeps his spot in the side. The Englishman has looked a pale show of his best since joining United and is yet to make an assist or score a goal. Hopefully, he will experience a turnaround in fortunes and will come good for both club and country.
Mason Greenwood also failed to make the cut despite scoring in each of his first three Premier League matches of the season. Whether the youngster will get a look in for future games remains to be seen. Dean Henderson also misses out.
