Manchester United legend Roy Keane inducted into the Premier League hall of fame
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United legend Roy Keane has been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
The former skipper is the second Red Devil to be inducted today, following in the footsteps of Eric Cantona. They join Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer on the pantheon of greats.
One of the league’s most decorated players, Keane has won the title seven times with United. Someone who led from the front, he was quick to praise his teammates for the honour.
“I feel very lucky to be inducted but I’ve only been inducted because of the players I’ve played with.”
Keane spent 12 trophy-laden years at United. During this time, he made 366 appearances in the Premier League. Of these, 40 of them came for Nottingham Forest in 1992/93. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The spell at the City Ground appears to have had an impact on Keane’s career. He praised former Nottingham boss Brian Clough, who signed him for the club from Cobh Ramblers in Ireland.
“Brian Clough [was my biggest influence] for signing and giving me my debut.”
Speaking after his induction, Keane revealed that signing for United was his best memory of the Premier League. Walking into the dressing room for the first time, few could have imagined the impact he would go on to have.
A no-nonsense player, he was one of the finest central midfielders of his time. His tough as nails attitude has to a large degree masked the sheer ability he had on the ball.
