Lille star Sven Botman flattered by Manchester United interest
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United target Sven Botman is flattered by the interest he is receiving from the Premier League
The 21-year-old is a key member for Lille as they look to wrap up the Ligue 1 title. They are currently two points clear at the top with two games to go.
An ever-present, Botman has missed just one league game this season. His performances have caught the attention of United, who are in the market for a new centre-back.
“If I’m honest, the Premier League is one of the leagues I dreamed about.”
Botman came through the youth system at Ajax Amsterdam but failed to make the step up to the senior side. He moved to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy last summer and has since gone from strength to strength.
The Dutchman harbours hopes of playing in the Premier League and admits that interest from the English top-flight is flattering. A long time fan, a move to the Premier League will be a dream come true.
“The style of play, the emotion; I really like to see the fans with such big emotions in the stands. It is a beautiful competition I really like to watch and did for pretty much all my life.”
Biding his time?
Botman is interested in the Premier League and admits the style employed in England suits him to a tee. Add to it the fans and the atmosphere, and the Dutchman is already sold on the idea of a switch.
“The Premier League is something special. It’s the football I really like and that fits me.”
For now, his focus remains on Lille as they look to make history. Given their struggles off the pitch, the team’s performance on it has been exemplary. (h/t Express)
Botman has interestingly left the door open on a potential summer switch. He has hinted that he will look at what the future holds for him at the end of the current campaign.
“After the season I will enjoy a vacation and see what happens next.”
