City enter the race for Manchester United target Sven Botman
According to Daily Mail, Man City have entered the race for Manchester United target Sven Botman. The 21-year-old defender has impressed with his performances for Lille and is a target for a host of other Premier League sides such as Liverpool, Newcastle and West ham.
Manchester United have wrapped up the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. His addition means that United have one too many central defenders at their disposal. Nonetheless, they still have Lille’s Sven Botman on their radar.
Botman came through the youth system at Ajax Amsterdam but failed to make the step up to the senior side. He moved to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy last summer and has since gone from strength to strength. The 21-year-old is a key member for Lille as they wrapped up the Ligue 1 title in stunning fashion. An ever-present, Botman missed just one league game last season.
Whether or not United go after him is a different matter. But the fact is that our ‘noisy neighbours’ have taken an interest in Botman as well. Lille are set to ask for £43m for their prized asset given he has a long term deal with the club. Several more Premier League sides such as Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham are also said to be after him.

It’s hard to see United going after Botman especially at that valuation after the signing of Varane. There are enough defenders at Solskjaer’s disposal and United can give him a pass. They would be better served if they spent their funds on positions that need more players.
