Transfer News: PSG join Sven Botman race amidst Manchester United interest
According to 90min (h/t ChronicleLive), PSG have entered the race to sign Lille star Sven Botman amidst interest from Manchester United for a summer transfer. He has emerged to become one of the hottest prospects, having attracted attention from several European heavyweights ahead of the next season.
Man United have already expressed their interest in signing Botman as they look to improve their centre-back options this summer. The likes of Chelsea, AC Milan and Newcastle United are also in the mix to secure his services. Now, Paris Saint-German have joined the fray as they look to steal a march on the competition.
At one point, it seemed like the Dutchman had firmly decided to move to Milan in the summer transfer window. However, the discussions over a potential move stalled which forced the race wide open once again, paving the way for all the interested parties to try their cards to convince the defender.
Transfer blow for Man Utd
Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed at the start of this month that the Red Devils have decided to sell Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly in the summer transfer window. Bailly has been suffering from regular injury woes for quite some time and has not been at his best either.
Tuanzebe, meanwhile, was forced out of Aston Villa and his time on loan at Napoli was also not filled with any promise as he failed to make it into their lineup. The defensive duo’s exits would leave a gap in the defence that must be filled as we need to maintain a good depth of options for Erik ten Hag to choose from moving forward.
Furthermore, Phil Jones, who has also attracted interest from several English clubs, could make his way out of Manchester this summer. While Jones has been solid when he has played after returning to action, sticking with him would not be wise if there are plans to compete for titles as our direct rivals have superior options in their ranks.
Botman, who has seen himself become one of the most promising young centre-halves, would undoubtedly be a great option to boost competition in our team. Perhaps that could force the likes of Harry Maguire, for example, to do his best as he had endured a difficult campaign last season.

However, the French giants’ entry would pose a considerable threat as they are in a far better place than us right now. Perhaps, we could convince Lille not to sell their star man to another Ligue 1 club which could be helpful if our attempt is successful.
That being said, Newcastle, in particular, seems to be a major concern as they are confident about convincing the 22-year-old to move to St. James’ Park this summer. We cannot take their optimism lightly, as Botman had admitted in the past that he was intrigued by their project, suggesting they may be able to pose an obstacle in our pathway.
