Rio Ferdinand urges Manchester United to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE on Youtube, the Manchester United legend has urged the club to sign Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Red Devils are keen to bring in a striker in the upcoming window. With Anthony Martial struggling and Edinson Cavani’s future unclear, bringing in reinforcements is a priority.

While the club continues to be linked with Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, Ferdinand believes the answer to our problems could be found on Merseyside.

“Listen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, for me I love him. I think he’d be a fantastic signing for Manchester United. It’s one out of left field a little bit but I think he’d have a big impact.”

The 24-year-old is almost peerless in the air and has come into his own as a frontman this season. With 19 goals in 32 appearances, he is the lynchpin of Carlo Ancelotti’s impressive Toffees side.

Ferdinand has watched the Englishman closely this season and considers him a force to reckon with. He believes defenders would loathe to come up against him on a regular basis.

“He’s one that unnerves defenders. He’s not one you want to play against week in, week out. He is aggressive, he attacks the ball.”

The next Inzaghi?

As someone who has coached the clinical Filippo Inzaghi, Ancelotti’s magic appears to be rubbing off on Calvert-Lewin. While it is too early to compare him to the Italian legend, he has shown glimpses of being an astute performer.

While Ferdinand still believes Haaland or Kane should be our top priorities, he would welcome a move for Calvert-Lewin if we miss out on the former two players.

As one of the best ever defenders to grace the Premier League, Ferdinand’s praise for Calvert-Lewin shouldn’t be taken lightly. At 24, the striker is set to enter his prime and could thrive playing alongside top players.

He has all the makings of someone ready to take the next step in his career. Whether that will be at Old Trafford remains to be seen.
