Newcastle United are preparing a bid for Manchester United target and Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin
According to transfer news on The Mirror, Newcastle United are preparing a bid for Manchester United target and Everton superstar Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old has built a reputation for himself as a solid frontman in the English top flight. Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injuries of late but continues to be on his day a formidable number nine.
Strong in the air and equally good at running into channels and holding the ball up, the Englishman can be an asset in the right system. With Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial likely to leave, the Red Devils could do with a specialist striker this summer.

Despite his recent struggles, Calvert-Lewin remains a formidable player who can rediscover his best. He could potentially thrive under Erik ten Hag, serving as a focal point of attack for the Red Devils in the years to come.
Bringing him to Old Trafford will not be easy with Newcastle sniffing around the goods. The Magpies are a resurgent force under Eddie Howe and are also bankrolled by their owners from the Middle East. It would be fair to say that they will have little problem in matching any offer, should they be keen on landing the player.
The Magpies’ entry will make life easier for Everton who can then provoke a bidding war. The Toffees suffered a £250million loss over the last two seasons and will need to balance their books. Selling Calvert-Lewin for a mammoth fee of around £85m will certainly make life easier at Goodison Park.

While Man United need a striker, they will do well not to pay over the odds for the 25-year-old. There are other options available such as Darwin Nunez and we can do much better than Calvert-Lewin.
The Red Devils’ interest in the Everton ace has cooled in recent months. Whether Newcastle’s move will see us rekindle our interest remains to be seen.

Man United have been rebuilding for some time now and will need to get it right this summer. We cannot afford to go big on gambles anymore. As things stand, Calvert-Lewin is just that and we are better served looking elsewhere.
A homegrown player who is tried and tested in the Premier, DCL is an out-and-out striker that fans could picture becoming a cult icon at Old Trafford. But for that, the Red Devils would have to formalise any interest they may hold in the player.
