Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United
According to transfer news from Italian publication CalcioMercato via Sport Witness (h/t The Mirror), Cristiano Ronaldo could make a sensational return to Manchester United.
The 36-year-old spent six years at Old Trafford before leaving for Real Madrid in 2018. It was at the Theatre of Dreams that he showcased his potential and developed into a world-beater.
Currently at Juventus, Ronaldo is yet to confirm his plans beyond the end of the current campaign. With speculation rife, a return to either United or Real could be on the cards.
With a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League all but secured, United are set for a financial boost from taking part in the lucrative competition. The club have identified Ronaldo as a target and may have already earmarked the money to lure him.
With Paul Pogba’s future at United also a matter of much debate, it has been suggested that an exchange deal with Juventus could be on the cards.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer too remains a fan of Ronaldo. He recently admitted that the Portuguese sensation is someone he would welcome back at Old Trafford.
No thanks!
At 36, Ronaldo is clearly heading towards the end of his career. Despite his age, he continues to pack a punch and has the ability and the ambition to make a difference.
While it would be good to see him back, the Red Devils should look to get top dollar for Pogba rather than swap him for Ronaldo.
While there is no debate regarding Ronaldo’s standing in the game, United will be better served to look forward than relive the past. The money earmarked for Ronaldo can be better utilized elsewhere.

The Red Devils passed on an opportunity earlier to re-sign Ronaldo. They will do well to do the same again. He made 292 appearances, scoring 118 times and assisting 69 goals during his time at United. (h/t Transfermarkt)
