Manchester United star Daniel James credits Ryan Giggs for providing him with the best advice
Speaking on the UTD Podcast (h/t Man Utd), Manchester United star Daniel James has revealed the best piece of advice he has received.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, he has revealed that the particular piece of advice came from United legend Ryan Giggs. The 47-year-old also managed James at the international level for Wales.
Rather than supply the youngster with any complex piece of wisdom, Giggs just told the player to be himself. Maybe something every upcoming player needs to hear.
“When people ask me what’s the best advice you’ve ever been given, it would probably be from him [Giggs]. It was just be yourself.”
James enjoyed a bright start to life at United but had tapered off since. The Welshman admits he lost his way but is now rediscovering it.
He admits going back and seeing his old videos, only to notice a difference in his demeanour. However, he thought of Giggs’ advice and has now grown to appreciate the meaning behind those words.
“It was a reality to check for me in that you can take from him and you can take from different players around you but ultimately, you’re here because of what you do, and it goes back to what Giggsy said to me to just ‘be yourself’, that was so important.”
Determined to succeed!
James was also determined to improve his chances of succeeding at United. Despite a rough start to the season, he was keen to show off his ability and succeed at Old Trafford.
“I want to be here, I don’t want to be anywhere else.”
The 23-year-old impressed in training and has played more regularly for United in recent weeks. James was also the hero for Wales last night in the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.

At just 23, James has the best years of his career ahead of him. While it may be too much to expect him to replicate Giggs’ exploits as a player, he could very well evolve into a dependable winger who can perform consistently.
