Deadline Day News: Manchester United ace Daniel James on the verge of €28m move to Leeds
According to transfer deadline day news from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Daniel James is set to complete a move from Manchester United to Leeds United.
The Welshman, who joined the club nearly 2 years ago, has been a great servant to the club over the last 24 months. Although not a regular starter, James was an exciting prospect when he started out at the club and went on to make 46 appearances across all competitions in his first season at the club.
However, a lot has changed since then. The addition of Bruno Fernandes in January last year, coupled with Mason Greenwood’s good form towards the end of the 2019/20 season, restricted consistent game-time for the 23-year-old, who only managed 26 appearances last season, with only half of them coming in the Premier League.
The addition of Jadon Sancho had created doubt whether James would act settle for a backup role at the club. However, the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo means that it would be incredibly hard for the 23-year-old to rack up consistent minutes this season, regardless of where the Portuguese plays on the pitch.
Thus, a move to Leeds would do a world of good to James, who fits the profile of Marcelo Bielsa’s heavy metal football. This is also not the first time the Whites have been interested in signing the Welshman as they also came close to snapping him up in January 2019.
Although James completed a medical for Leeds, the move failed at the 11th hour, and the 23-year-old remained at Swansea.
United, however, will now receive €28million plus add-ons for James’ services, and a move to Elland Road is set to be announced soon after the Welshman completes his medical in the morning.
