Transfer News: Manchester United still keen on Erling Haaland transfer from Borussia Dortmund
A report by Norwegian news outlet VG (h/t Express) states that Manchester United have lodged a request to know if Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland wants a move elsewhere in the summer.
The Norwegian remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer priority. With United not winning a title since 2013, they want more goals up front and Haaland could join Edinson Cavani as a teammate and not a replacement.
United were after Haaland in January 2020, but the striker chose the Black and Yellow over the Red Devils. Nevertheless, the club still prefer him over his Dortmund partner, Jadon Sancho, who has also been on United’s radar for a while.
However, the report adds that United could miss out on the 20-year-old due to their financial situation. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City could outmuscle the Red Devils when it comes to the financial aspects of the deal.

United are also losing close to £4-5million per home game due to Covid-19 pandemic. However, Haaland seems like a player who can change the fortunes of a team all by himself.
Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are nowhere near prolific this season in the Premier League. And if United want to be among the trophies again, a goal-scoring No.9 would go a long way in helping them achieve that.
If they do fail to land the former Molde man, there is good news in the form of the club’s hope of keeping Cavani beyond this summer. Solskjaer stated earlier this month that the club is hopeful of striking a deal with the Uruguayan.
“We’re speaking to Eddy. Edinson is a top striker and whatever he decides to do, let’s see. We’re in good dialogue with him. We want a competitive squad and we need someone up there to score the goals for us. So we’re looking at it.”

The 34-year-old signed on a free transfer from PSG last summer and there are reports of him wanting to move to Boca Juniors. But if the club cannot sign Haaland, then keeping Cavani could prove to be a good short-term move.
