Manchester United may not have the transfer budget to get across Jadon Sancho deal in the summer
According to journalist Sam Pilger (h/t Express), Manchester United could look away from Jadon Sancho in the summer due to a restricted transfer budget.
United maintain their interest in the English winger, who they wanted to bring to Old Trafford on three different occasions. There was interest from the club in 2017 during the reign of Jose Mourinho.
But Sancho chose Dortmund back then. This was followed by attempts to sign him in 2019, and most recently, last summer.
And now Pilger writes that United are interested in Sancho, who he believes would come for cheaper than he would have in 2020. However, he says that the Red Devils could themselves pass up on him this time around.
“Sancho will be available for cheaper than last year; but United could pass on him if they decide to invest the majority of their budget in, for instance, a striker…”
A hard choice to make
The worrying thing is that United might have the cash to complete just one ‘marquee signing’, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to add a striker, a holding midfielder, and a centre-back.
“…the club are still undecided on their priorities for the summer, aware they also need to add a holding midfielder, centre-back and striker. There is probably only the budget for one marquee signing.”
In that regard, there are several names linked with a move to Old Trafford. United are also interested in Sancho’s teammate, Erling Haaland.
And Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Brighton’s Ben White, and Sevilla defender Jules Kounde are some of the centre-backs that the club have been linked with recently. As for a holding midfielder, Declan Rice is an option.

But West Ham would want somewhere near £100million for him. And if the report above stands true, then United would have to be very careful with who they want to add to the squad in the summer.
