Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not to rush Edinson Cavani back into action for Manchester United
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he will not rush Edinson Cavani back into action.
The Uruguayan is currently recovering from a knock and missed out on United’s trip to Switzerland to take on Young Boys on Tuesday. Given the lack of penetration we had, it is fair to say that the 34-year-old’s absence was noted.
Cavani ended the 2020/21 season on a high, netting 10 times in the final 11 games of the campaign. He played a key role in our Europa League semifinal win over AS Roma and drew us level in the final against Villarreal.
While Cavani is ruled out of the trip to London this weekend, he could feature in our midweek Carabao Cup clash against West Ham next week. Solskjaer remains hopeful that the veteran will start training by then.
“Edinson hopefully will start training with us after the weekend, maybe Monday, so maybe involved on Wednesday.”
The Norwegian is under no illusions as to what the Uruguayan brings to the table. A serial goalscorer, Solskjaer is not ready to risk Cavani until he is 100 per cent fit.
“We feel that to get the best out of him this season we need to get him 100% fit and not rush him.”
The Red Devils have added enough ammo to their attack in Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo. With Jesse Lingard back, there is also ample strength in reserve.
Solskjaer is aware that he has no need to rush back Cavani. The player, for his part, is working hard to feature. Hopefully, it will happen sooner rather than later.
“I see Edinson having a massive impact, he’s that type of personality and player. He can’t wait to play and he’s working really hard to get back on the pitch.”

Having needlessly overplayed Marcus Rashford in the previous two seasons, it is good to see that Solskajer has at least learned his lesson. Cavani is not young anymore and his body will need time to recover. Hopefully, he will return soon and will start doing what he does best-score.
