Ole Gunner Solskjaer refuses to give much away regarding the future of Paul Pogba at Manchester United
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed little with regards to Paul Pogba penning a new contract and staying on at the club this summer.
The Frenchman is one of the best players in the United squad and is, on his day, a world-beater. He has less than a year left on his current deal and has so far shown little inclination to pen fresh terms.
Speaking ahead of our trip to Southampton, Solskjaer has confirmed that negotiations continue to take place between the club and the player’s representatives. However, he refused to give anything more away.
“That’s negotiations with Paul’s representatives and the club. For me, me and Paul work together every day and we keep on trying to improve, improve the team and to enjoy ourselves.”
Pogba was one of United’s best players in our opening day win over Leeds United. While he may not have scored on the night, the Frenchman provided four assists.
The performance was amongst his best in a United jersey. Solskjaer is however not ready to jump to conclusions and believes the player must perform so on a consistent basis. He believes what Pogba showed against Leeds should become a regular occurrence in the matches to come.
“We just have to make sure we don’t make this one game and everyone flys off on it with the big headlines and the praise we get. It’s about bringing the energy and being even better. One swallow never makes a summer.”
The Norwegian also went on to admit that Edinson Cavani is ready to train. The Uruguayan only recently returned from his homeland and could return to action soon.
Whether we will see the 34-year-old take to the field against Southampton remains to be seen. Cavani has great memories of St Mary’s having helped overturn a 2-0 deficit last season.
“He’s ready to train, ready to go and let’s see how much we can get out of him.”
